Formula 1 world champion Lando Norris has co-founded a new junior single-seater racing team, LN4 Fusion, aimed at nurturing young talent and competing across top-tier championships, including key feeder series for Formula One such as F3 and F2.
This initiative marks a historic milestone, representing the first time a current Formula 1 world champion has directly backed a team in the modern junior single-seater era. Alongside an investment group, Norris has committed personal funding to the venture. He has also established the LN4 Legacy programme, a comprehensive driver development initiative designed to identify and nurture talent from karting upwards, offering financial support, coaching, performance tracking, and career guidance.
The project was officially launched at an event in Monza, home of this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix. The initiative represents a serious, comprehensive effort to address the systemic challenges facing junior drivers climbing the ranks—challenges that Norris has previously highlighted as a fundamental issue within motorsport.
“I know that reaching Formula One requires far more than raw talent,” Norris stated. “It demands the right support network, the right people around you, and crucial opportunities at the exact right moments.”
“That is the core of both initiatives. LN4 Fusion focuses on building a top-tier race team capable of competing at the highest levels of junior motorsport, providing an elite environment for driver development. Meanwhile, the LN4 Legacy programme is dedicated to helping talented young drivers secure opportunities they might not otherwise access.”
“These two pillars naturally complement each other. My goal is to create opportunities for the next generation both on and off the track, making a tangible difference for young drivers navigating their way through the sport.”
Looking ahead, LN4 Fusion plans to compete across multiple championships starting next year, with confirmed programmes in F3 for 2027, alongside the Italian F4 Championship and the FIA Formula Regional European Championship. To accelerate this timeline, the team has acquired key assets from German outfit AIX Racing, including an F3 entry valid through the end of 2027, and has applied for participation in the F2 Championship.
Norris will take an active role in the organization of the team, a move warmly welcomed by Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali. “Lando’s involvement is a powerful statement on just how vital the Formula 3 and Formula 2 pyramid is to the future of Formula One,” Domenicali remarked. “Through his investment and hands-on experience, we can build a sustainable future filled with new drivers, engineers, and mechanics, establishing a tradition cherished by motorsport fans worldwide.”
The team’s serious ambitions are underscored by the appointment of René Rosin as team principal. Rosin, formerly the principal and managing director of the legendary Prema team, brings over 40 years of junior series racing experience. Prema has secured multiple titles and is a cornerstone for talent development, having nurtured current F1 stars like Kimi Antonelli, Charles Leclerc, Oscar Piastri, and former champion Jacques Villeneuve.
The LN4 Fusion team will also leverage the extensive expertise and personnel from the Fusion Motorsport team, which has dominated UK karting for 25 years with numerous national and international titles. Dan Hazlewood, head of Fusion Motorsport karting, will serve as team principal for the LN4 Fusion UK division, overseeing their entry into the British F4 championship and bridging talent directly from karting.
With racing operations set to commence in 2027, the organization is establishing its European headquarters in Veneto, northern Italy, while its British base in Cambridgeshire is already operational, developing the F4 programme.
Rosin emphasized the immense value of having Norris at the core of the venture, highlighting the high expectations for the team’s success.
“Having Lando on board adds an invaluable dimension to this project,” Rosin said. “He has successfully navigated the junior single-seater ranks and fully understands its demands. His direct involvement will make a real difference. We aim to establish a clear pathway through junior single-seaters, creating an elite environment where drivers, engineers, and sporting personnel can perform at the absolute highest level.”
CEO Dan Richards echoed this optimism, asserting that the team has assembled all the essential components for success. “What we have built goes far beyond simply acquiring a racing team,” he stated.
“We have assembled a rare, powerhouse combination: an established operational base, a Formula One world champion, the most successful team principal in junior single-seater racing of the past two decades, world-class motorsport expertise, significant investment, and a shared ambition to build a team capable of competing at the very highest levels of the sport.”
