O’Shaquie Foster bolstered his case for Fighter of the Year on Saturday in Texas, defeating Emanuel Navarrete to capture the IBF and WBO super‑featherweight titles, adding to the WBC belt he already held.
Foster displayed sharp, disciplined boxing over twelve rounds against the powerful Navarrete, who was rocked twice in the final round by Foster’s relentless pressure and precise counter‑striking.
The victory marks the latest impressive performance by ‘Shock’, who has rebounded from early career setbacks to refine his craft and position himself among the top pound‑for‑pound fighters globally.
Seeking further validation, Foster has repeatedly called for a bout against former sparring partner Shakur Stevenson, though he now indicates he is not prepared to move up in weight to make that fight happen.
In his post‑fight media comments, Foster confirmed that his next target is a lightweight bout with Stevenson, but he intends to wrap up his super‑featherweight division first.
“I want to go undisputed, man. I feel like that fight was the biggest after me beating Ray Ford, now my dream is to become undisputed, make history.
“I just made history – the first three-belt champion in the super-featherweight division – and all I need is one more to fulfil my biggest dream, and then I’ll go see Shakur.”
To realize his ambition, Foster must secure a fight with the winner of the December showdown between Anthony Cacace and Nick Ball, which will determine the WBA super‑featherweight title.
Shakur Stevenson vacated his WBC lightweight title to move up to 140 lb earlier this year and defeated Teófimo López. Nevertheless, Stevenson has recently indicated he will consider taking on opponents in both the lightweight and super‑featherweight divisions.
The news followed Stevenson’s announcement that he had been released from his promotional contract with Zuffa Boxing, a decision both parties described as mutually beneficial. After witnessing Foster’s victory, Stevenson praised the champion and expressed his readiness to fight him “whenever.”
