Four Killed in Apparent Gang-Related Shooting Near Saint Vincent Capital

Four people were killed and four others injured in a violent incident near Kingstown, raising concerns over escalating gang activity in the Caribbean tourism hub.

Police in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines are investigating a fatal shooting that left four people dead and four others injured in the Green Hill area of Central Kingstown on Friday night, officials confirmed Saturday.

Acting Police Commissioner Trevor Bailey reported that two victims were found deceased on a public road, one inside a parked vehicle and another on nearby land. All four fatalities showed signs of gunshot wounds during preliminary examinations.

The four surviving victims were transported to Milton Cato Memorial Hospital, where two have since been treated and released. The remaining two patients remained hospitalized as of Saturday.

No arrests have been made, and authorities have not yet disclosed a motive behind the attack. Assistant Commissioner of Police Brenton Smith acknowledged the ongoing nature of the investigation, stating, “As soon as the intelligence and investigation is completed, you will know the motives.”

The incident reflects a broader pattern of escalating gang-related violence in the twin-island nation. Police Commissioner Bailey noted that retaliatory attacks between rival groups have contributed to a surge in homicides, with 37 cases recorded nationwide so far this year.

“We have seen some retaliation … one group hitting back at another,” Bailey said, reiterating the force’s condemnation of such acts.

In response to the rising insecurity, law enforcement agencies have implemented enhanced measures, including increased patrols, targeted searches, and improved coordination across units to share intelligence.

The 32-island archipelago, renowned for its pristine beaches and turquoise waters, continues to depend heavily on tourism as its primary economic driver. Despite its appeal to international visitors, officials are working to address the growing threat posed by organized criminal activity.

Bailey took the opportunity to urge youth in the region to reject involvement with criminal organizations: “I call upon the young people of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines to be model citizens, to desist from the path of crime and violence. Violence has no part in our society.”
