France defender Ibrahima Konate is in advanced negotiations with Real Madrid to finalize a free transfer following the conclusion of his contract with Liverpool.
According to reports from The Daily Telegraph’s exclusive sources, the 27-year-old center-back is close to finalizing terms with Los Blancos as his current deal in Merseyside expires on June 30th.
Earlier this week, Liverpool confirmed Konate’s departure from the club after four seasons, during which he made 183 total appearances and won three major trophies including the Premier League title and FA Cup.
While initial discussions regarding a contract extension were underway, sustained disagreements over salary demands ultimately resulted in the breakdown of negotiations between the player and the club.
Konate originally arrived at Liverpool from RB Leipzig for a £35 million transfer in 2021 after establishing himself as a Premier League top-tier defender.
This potential move would mark Konate as Real Madrid’s second successive free transfer from Liverpool, following Trent Alexander-Arnold’s La Liga switch last summer. The arrival would strengthen their defensive unit while preserving significant transfer budget resources.
