Francesco Bagnaia has refuted a widely shared video that seemed to suggest Ducati was hindering his ability to fine‑tune his motorcycle, stressing that his remarks were taken out of context.
Following a disappointing performance at Misano the previous weekend, factory Ducati rider Francesco Bagnaia was observed conversing with VR46’s Fabio di Giannantonio in the media area, and Spanish broadcaster DAZN released footage that appeared to be a private exchange between them.
Speaking in Italian, di Giannantonio suggested that Bagnaia had used a basic bike configuration, to which the two‑time MotoGP champion retorted that Ducati would not permit such changes, prompting a surge of commentary on social media.
Upon arriving at the Red Bull Ring for the Austrian Grand Prix a few days later, Bagnaia dismissed claims that Ducati had neglected his support during recent difficulties and criticized DAZN for releasing the clip.
“He explained that he has repeatedly answered questions about team support by saying the squad is doing everything possible to assist him.”
“The incident at Misano was an unapproved broadcast by DAZN; however, the recorded video was taken out of context.”
“The conversation took place in a public setting and was never confidential, yet the footage is incomplete, leaving out part of what was discussed.”
“He acknowledged that his final remark was misstated, noting that everyone experiences frustration and may speak incorrectly at times.”
He clarified that he had already made multiple adjustments to improve rear‑grip performance on his motorcycle.
“He added that his attempts to modify the bike were repeatedly blocked by Ducati, and he no longer wishes to pursue further adjustments.”
“He admitted that his words were poorly expressed and that the ensuing situation harmed his reputation.”
“He emphasized that a respectful relationship between journalists and riders is essential, noting that he has always been courteous and never said anything inappropriate.”
“He stressed the importance of maintaining good relations with the media, as they represent riders to the public, and expressed regret over the incident.”
Bagnaia said his relationship with Ducati remained unchanged after he discussed the video’s content with team management during the break following the San Marino Grand Prix.
“He noted that the conversation was held yesterday and that it looks unfavorable when broadcast on television.”
“He pointed out that his Friday and Sunday interviews confirm that Ducati continues to support him.”
“He concluded that Ducati understands his position, that he is not being irrational, apologized for his remarks, and reaffirmed that the team relationship remains strong, as it has been in the past.”
