Police Inspector Anderson Lessing described the scene, noting that “half of it was sticking inside, and half it was sticking out, with the driver still inside.”
Adding an unusual twist to the already peculiar circumstances, Lessing remarked that “strangely, he was still eating Macca’s there” — referencing the local nickname for McDonald’s.
The suspect told police he was delivering a food order when the crash occurred, though officers later charged him with negligent driving. The vehicle sustained significant damage estimated at a minimum of $10,700, with the fountain also affected.
Despite the dramatic nature of the collision, the French visitor was uninjured and remains in custody pending further investigation.
