Gal Gadot Voices Disappointment Over DC Studios’ Cancellation of Wonder Woman 3 and Henry Cavill’s Exit

Gal Gadot has spoken out against DC Studios’ decision to cancel the third Wonder Woman film and the departure of Henry Cavill from the Superman role.

Gadot starred as the titular heroine in 2017’s Wonder Woman, the first female‑led entry in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), which was followed by the 2020 sequel Wonder Woman 1984. She also made cameo appearances in the second Shazam film and in 2023’s The Flash, marking her final performance as the character.

The DCEU concluded in 2023, making way for a new narrative framework known as the DC Universe, led by James Gunn at the newly established DC Studios. This fresh timeline, launched with last year’s Superman, signaled that former DCEU actors would no longer be part of the studio’s plans.

In December 2022, Henry Cavill disclosed that he would not be returning as Superman, despite earlier assurances that he would reprise the role after his cameo in Black Adam. Gunn subsequently refuted claims of “firing” Cavill, stating that he was simply not cast for the rebooted version of the character.

Although Gadot never formally announced her exit, reports indicated she would not be returning, and Gunn announced last year that a new Wonder Woman film was in development.

Reflecting on that era, Gadot appeared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, expressing disappointment over how former collaborators were handled.

When asked whether there was a moment she was informed she would no longer portray Wonder Woman, she responded: “No, they told me the opposite. They said, ‘We’re going to develop the third one with you.’ But I saw how everyone else was treated, and the Henry situation was unfortunate. I was involved in that. The handling of Henry’s departure was far from graceful.”

Despite the setback, Gadot remains philosophical. “I feel like we’re all adults and it’s all good,” she noted. “It’s not even about them. They’re there to do what they believe in, and that’s fine.”

Cavill was succeeded by David Corenswet in the 2025 film Superman, set in a new universe and a box‑office success for DC Studios. The subsequent follow‑up, Supergirl, underperformed, earning less than the infamously underwhelming Marvel release Morbius. Corenswet is slated to reprise the role in Man of Tomorrow, slated for next year.
