Germany secured a 2-1 win over World Cup co-hosts the United States in their final warm-up match ahead of the tournament. Kai Havertz opened the scoring, but Antonee Robinson’s spectacular volley equalized before Leroy Sane netted the decisive goal for Julian Nagelsmann’s side.
“I’m satisfied with the effort from everyone,” US coach Mauricio Pochettino remarked, acknowledging his team’s resilience despite the loss. “We faced one of the top sides globally and showed we can compete.”
The US will open their World Cup campaign against Paraguay on 12 June, while Germany, on a nine-match winning streak, begin against Curacao on 14 June.
Julian Nagelsmann praised the match as a “perfect preparatory test,” highlighting both the challenging weather conditions and the quality of their opponents.
Brazil defeated Egypt 2-1 in their final friendly, with Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes scoring early. Mostafa Zico equalized for Egypt, but Raphinha’s assist for Endrick secured the win for Brazil, who also substituted defender Wesley after 17 minutes.
Egypt’s Mohamed Salah, who recovered from a minor muscle injury, featured in the second half. “Salah completed his rehabilitation with Liverpool and the national team, and he’s now match-ready,” stated Egypt coach Hossam Hassan.
Egypt will face Belgium in their World Cup opener on 15 June, following Belgium’s 5-0 thrashing of Tunisia. Leandro Trossard, Charles de Ketelaere, Kevin De Bruyne, Dodi Lukebakio, and Nicolas Raskin scored for Belgium, with Tunisia reduced to 10 men after Ismael Gharbi’s red card in the 62nd minute.
Rudi Garcia introduced Romelu Lukaku in the 66th minute as part of managing his return. “This was valuable preparation—we’re aware of this team’s potential,” Garcia said, referencing Belgium’s recent 2-0 loss to Croatia.
