BERLIN — German authorities have issued a wanted notice for a suspect in the van ramming incident near Berlin’s Pride festival that resulted in one fatality and at least 16 injuries.
Police and prosecutors have named the fugitive as 21-year-old Abdul B. and are urging the public to assist in locating him.
Authorities believe the suspect used a vehicle to harm multiple individuals, after which occupants exited the scene. Additional stab wounds were also reported among the victims.
The public alert warns against direct contact with the suspect, noting he may be armed and dangerous.
Earlier statements from police indicated the suspect has known ties to Islamic groups in Berlin. “The suspect is known to police. He is known to us as a member of Islamic circles here in Berlin, and our search for this person is proceeding at full speed,” said police spokesperson Florian Nath.
Nath emphasized that investigators currently lack information about the suspect’s motives, the precise sequence of events, or his direct involvement in the crime.
