Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has hailed Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice as “world-class” after the England international produced a moment of brilliance to secure a 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.
Rice cancelled out Bayern’s lead in the 82nd minute with a clinical finish, capping a swift interchange involving Noni Madueke and Viktor Gyokeres before driving a low shot past Manuel Neuer. The goal preserved Arsenal’s unbeaten start to their Champions League campaign and underlined the 27-year-old’s growing influence since his record move to the Emirates Stadium.
Speaking on TNT Sports following the final whistle, Gerrard was effusive in his assessment of his former international teammate. “Declan Rice is a world-class midfielder and that was a top, top goal,” the former England captain said.
Rice has made an immediate impact this season, registering five goal contributions across all competitions. He is expected to retain his place in midfield when Arsenal host Everton in their next Premier League fixture.
