Footage captures carpenters sanding, painting, and finishing these distinctive designs before a guitar-shaped coffin is taken to a funeral ceremony and placed in the ground.

The tradition is especially prominent among the Ga people of Accra, Ghana’s capital, where families choose coffin shapes that reflect the deceased’s profession, hobbies, or personal passions.

Artisans say the designs embody a belief that individuals continue their life’s activities in the afterlife.
