Livingston have named former Republic of Ireland international Glenn Whelan as their new head coach.
The 42-year-old takes the helm with the primary objective of securing the club’s return to the Scottish Premiership following their recent relegation.
Whelan arrives with coaching experience from stints at Bristol Rovers and Wigan Athletic, where he also served as interim manager on two occasions.
“His beliefs and values align very well with ours, and we are delighted to give him this opportunity,” stated Livingston sporting director David Martindale.
“Having played nearly 100 games for his country and over 300 in the Premier League, he brings an elite mindset and a proven winning mentality to the club.”
Livingston’s previous campaign in the top flight ended in disappointment, with the club relegated after managing only two victories in 38 matches.
The appointment follows a period of transition; David Martindale concluded his six-year tenure as manager in January, and Marvin Bartley stepped down once relegation was finalized.
“I will give my all for the club moving forward,” said Whelan, whose playing career included a decade at Stoke City as well as spells with Sheffield Wednesday, Aston Villa, and Hearts.
“I am eager to seize this opportunity and build a successful team that the fans can be proud of. I am grateful to the board for their trust, and the hard work has already begun.”
