Glentoran have identified Cliftonville manager Jim Magilton as their preferred candidate to succeed Declan Devine.
Devine departed the Oval club on Monday after two years in charge, following a disappointing start to the campaign.
Interim managers Paddy McCourt and Tim McCann presided over Tuesday night’s home defeat to Irish Premiership leaders Coleraine.
Magilton has emerged as the front-runner, with Glentoran set to make a formal approach to speak with the Cliftonville boss ahead of the clubs’ Irish Premiership fixture at Solitude on Saturday.
The 57-year-old former Northern Ireland international was appointed Cliftonville boss in 2023, succeeding Paddy McLaughlin, and guided the club to Irish Cup glory the following year, ending a 45-year drought for the trophy.
Magilton, whose prior coaching roles include spells at Ipswich Town, the Irish FA, Dundalk, and Melbourne Victory, also led the Reds to the 2025 BetMcLean Cup, defeating Glentoran in the final, before losing to Dungannon Swifts in the Irish Cup final two months later.
