The Grammy Awards are introducing five new categories and revising key rules for the 2027 ceremony.
Five new categories have been added, including Best Asian Pop Music Performance, Best R&B Collaboration or Duo/Group Performance, Best Traditional Pop Vocal Performance, Best Traditional Folk Album, and Best Latin Song.
Best Asian Pop Music Performance will honor artistic excellence in Asian pop music from Asian markets, requiring meaningful use of one or more Asian languages. Best Latin Song recognizes newly written Latin songs with at least 51% Spanish-language lyrics, while Best R&B Collaboration celebrates collaborative works between solo artists, duos and groups.

The revised R&B category will now be titled Best R&B Solo Performance, with the previous Best Folk Album renamed Best Contemporary Folk Album to align with the new Traditional Folk Album category.
Grammy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. stated the changes will help make 2027 “an amazing year for the Grammy Awards, and one that reflects the extraordinary growth we’re seeing across music,” adding that the member-proposed updates showcase “the breadth of today’s music industry and the many genres, crafts, and creators shaping it.”
Additional rule modifications include increasing the maximum number of Best New Artist submissions from three to four times, and lowering the required new recordings threshold on eligible albums from 75% to 66% to reduce exclusions of widely recognized new albums.
The GRAMMYs will now allow artists to be submitted for the Best New Artist category up to four times.

Internet-only releases are now eligible for Best Album Notes and Best Historical Album when additional materials and album notes are included in commercial downloads. Songwriters and composers behind winning albums will also receive awards and achievement certificates.
