Raye, the multi-platinum Grammy winner, has been cast in Benny Safdie’s upcoming film Lizard Music, which is based on Daniel Pinkwater’s 1976 novel of the same name. The project will feature the artist contributing original music and voicing a character, blending live-action storytelling with CGI effects, according to Deadline.
The film’s ensemble cast includes Dwayne Johnson, Alicia Silverstone, Regina Hall, Colman Domingo, Jeff Goldblum, Rachel McAdams, David Krumholtz, Andrew Dice Clay, and Tim Heidecker. Safdie adapted the screenplay from Pinkwater’s whimsical novel, which follows the eccentric adventures of a boy named Leber as he uncovers a late-night radio broadcast of lizards performing otherworldly music. Together with an eccentric old man known as the Chicken Man and his companion, an octogenarian chicken named Claudia, the story explores cosmic mysteries through a blend of humor and imagination. The film is scheduled for theatrical release on December 25, 2027.
Producers UA’s Scott Stuber and Nick Nesbitt, Safdie’s Out for the Count Productions, Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions, and Magnetic Fields Entertainment’s David Koplan are also attached to the project. Recently, Raye has garnered attention for her critically acclaimed second album This Music May Contain Hope and her role in Yann Demange’s crime thriller Lineage, which marked her debut in a scripted dramatic role. Her latest single, “Where Is My Husband!,” is a leading contender for Grammy Song of the Year.
