The Grand Prix Commission—comprising Paul Duparc (FIM), Mike Webb (IRTA), Biense Bierma (MSMA), and Carmelo Ezpeleta (MotoGP SEG, Chairman)—alongside Jorge Viegas (FIM President), Carlos Ezpeleta (MotoGP SEG), Corrado Cecchinelli (Director of Technology), Paul King (FIM CCR Director), and Dominique Hebrard (FIM CTI Technical Director), has issued the following updates:

  • Practice Starts Banned at Pitlane Exits – All Circuits – Effective 2027

Practice starts were previously allowed at pitlane exits for just over 30% of circuits. Now, with dedicated practice start zones established across the calendar and a specific MotoGP practice start session at every Grand Prix, pitlane practice starts are banned at all circuits, effective immediately.

  • Moto2 Concessions and Performance Parts – Effective 2027

The new specification Moto2 engine, launching in 2027, will necessitate new chassis development. Consequently, all Moto2 teams will start the 2027 season without concessions, with rankings reviewed mid-season. Due to limited pre-season testing with the new engine and chassis, manufacturers may make one update to either the chassis or swingarm during the year. Aero body components will remain frozen based on 2026 designs, with a cap on earlier designs to manage costs.

  • MotoGP ECU RPM Limit – Effective Immediately

The 20,000rpm RPM limit currently coded into the ECU software will now be formally written into the MotoGP regulations, aligning the wording with the Moto3 class rules.

  • Moto2 and Moto3 Non-Fossil Fuels – Effective 2027

The introduction of 100% non-fossil fuels for Moto2 and Moto3 has been delayed to the 2028 season. This ensures continuity alongside the new Triumph-supplied Moto2 engine in 2027 and the new Moto3 machinery debuting in 2028.

A regularly updated version of the FIM Grand Prix Regulations detailing these changes is available here.
