On National Tight Ends Day, Rob Gronkowski identified the two current players who best reflect his approach to the position during an appearance on “FOX NFL Kickoff.” While San Francisco 49ers star George Kittle was the expected choice, Gronkowski’s second selection—Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Darnell Washington—caught many off guard.

“I really like Darnell Washington, but I like two of them,” Gronkowski said. “The guy who truly represents me is George Kittle. The way that he plays the game: He’s a complete tight end and a devastating blocker at the point of attack and at the edge. The way that he just runs with the ball in his hands once he makes the catch, too. He’s just a fierce runner.”

Gronkowski also highlighted Washington’s four-yard touchdown reception during Pittsburgh’s game in Paris, offering strong praise for the young tight end’s development. As one of the greatest to ever play the position, Gronkowski’s endorsement of Washington signals significant long-term potential alongside the already-established excellence of Kittle.
