Guitarricadelafuente Delivers a Dreamy Performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Guitarricadelafuente, the Spanish artist celebrated for blending contemporary beats with traditional folk, made his television debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday night. He performed an atmospheric version of “BABIECA!,” a highlight from his 2025 album Spanish Leather.

Guest host Colman Domingo introduced the singer. Guitarricadelafuente began with a gentle vocal and a zanfona (hurdy‑gurdy), setting a hypnotic mood. The arrangement gradually built as additional band members joined, evolving into an energetic club‑inspired groove. The song, which speaks of intense desire and love, draws inspiration from the nightclub where his parents first met.

In an interview, Guitarricadelafuente explained that Spanish Leather was intended to sound more current and rooted in everyday experiences. “I wanted to capture a generational moment through these stories,” he said. He spent weeks in New York and Los Angeles—primarily at Carter Lang’s studio in L.A.—crafting the album. Initially he felt the music was very Spanish, but listeners from other countries connected with its energy even without understanding the lyrics, which he found “really interesting.”

Looking ahead, Guitarricadelafuente is set to make another high‑profile screen appearance. He stars in The Black Ball, a war epic that spans Spanish history across 1932, 1937 and 2017, directed by the duo Los Javis. The film has already earned critical praise, including a Best Director award at Cannes, and is scheduled to open theatrically on November 6. The Black Ball, his first major acting role, also features Penelope Cruz, Julio Torres, Glenn Close, Miguel Bernardeau and Carlos González, and will premiere on Netflix on December 4.
