Hadjar’s Dutch GP Withdrawal Demonstrates Season Preparation Confidence, Expert Asserts

Isack Hadjar’s choice to step away from the Dutch Grand Prix due to a wrist injury reflected a strategic decision to ensure peak performance for the remainder of the 2026 season, according to former Red Bull mechanic Calum Nicholas. The move underscored his commitment to long-term fitness rather than indicating any weakness.

Hadjar, who has impressed in his early partnership with four-time champion Max Verstappen at Red Bull, withdrew from the Zandvoort weekend to allow his recovery. This enabled Racing Bulls driver Liam Lawson to take over the seat at short notice. The New Zealander went on to finish seventh in a turbulent race where Verstappen collided on the opening leg.

During the latest episode of the Talking Bull podcast, Nicholas commended Hadjar’s precautionary approach. “Taking a week off as a safety measure to guarantee readiness for the season ahead demonstrates the confidence he’s shown consistently,” Nicholas stated. “It’s a testament to his confidence to openly acknowledge, ‘I’m not 100%, so I’ll take this week to recover.’ We’ll be watching closely to see him return for Monza.”

It remains uncertain whether Hadjar will rejoin the team for the Italian Grand Prix at Monza from 4 to 6 September, though he attended Zandvoort as a spectator. Team principal Laurent Mekies affirmed Hadjar’s involvement, stating, “He was present with us this weekend despite not driving. He’s actively engaging with the team to gather insights and ensure we’re aligned for a strong performance next week in Monza.”

In his debut season with Red Bull, Hadjar currently ranks eighth in the drivers’ championship with 68 points, while Verstappen stands sixth with 112 points.
