Hampshire’s beloved figure Jimmy Adams is set to depart the county after over 25 years serving as both player and coach.
The 46‑year‑old has secured a new position with Tasmania in Australia, following eight years as a coach at the Utilita Bowl.
Adams hung up his playing boots in 2018 after amassing 462 appearances for Hampshire in all formats, accumulating 19,723 runs.
“I’ve been fortunate to live out a dream, and I will continue to follow Hampshire for the rest of my life,” he said to the club’s website., external
“I’m embarking on an exciting new challenge; I don’t view this as an end, and I’ll continue to follow Hampshire while wishing the team all the best.”
“Leaving has been a difficult decision, but I believe the timing is right and it offers me an opportunity to test myself elsewhere.”
“I want to thank everyone for their support over the years, particularly Giles White, director of cricket, and the coaches and players I’ve had the privilege to work with. I plan to return to support the team and see everyone again soon.”
Adams, a Winchester native, came through Hampshire’s academy and made his debut in 2001.
As an opening batter, he captained the side from 2012 to 2015 and helped secure five trophies during his playing career.
In 2022 Adams was appointed lead batting coach for the Hawks and guided them to victory in the men’s Vitality Blast that year.
