Harrison Ford is reprising his role as Indiana Jones, albeit not in a new film but as the model for an animatronic figure in an upcoming Disney World attraction.
He first portrayed the iconic archaeologist in Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), later retitled Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, and continued the role in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989).
In 2008, Ford reunited with director Steven Spielberg and producer George Lucas for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. His most recent appearance as Indy came in 2023’s Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, directed by James Mangold.
Although Dial of Destiny appeared to be his final outing, Ford has agreed to return for a new Disney project: an animatronic Indiana Jones for a ride currently under construction at Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom. The attraction, revealed during Disney’s D23 Expo in Anaheim, will replace the former Dinoland U.S.A. area, which closed in 2025.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the forthcoming ride is titled Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent. Ford presented details in a video shown at the D23 convention, stating, “Hello, D23, thanks for coming along on all of Indy’s adventures. Soon it will be time for his next ride, and I’m pleased to share for the first time ever that I am the actual model for the Indiana Jones animatronic — fear of snakes included.”
Ford, 84, did not announce an opening date, only noting that the ride will open “soon.” Disney has not clarified whether the animatronic will resemble Indy from the original trilogy, the 2008 film, or the 2023 movie.
This is not the first time Indiana Jones has appeared at Disney parks. In 1989, Disney’s Hollywood Studios launched the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular!, a live show where stunt performers reenacted key action sequences from Raiders of the Lost Ark.
