Harry Styles delivered a nostalgic performance at his Madison Square Garden ‘Harryween’ concert on October 30, reenacting his iconic 2010 X Factor audition by performing Stevie Wonder’s ‘Isn’t She Lovely’ while dressed as his 16-year-old self.

The star took the stage for the first of two Halloween-themed shows, part of his ongoing 30-night residency at the venue. Initially appearing as Elvis Presley in a white jumpsuit with cape and gold sunglasses, Styles and his team of backing musicians and dancers embraced the Halloween theme with costume nods to his most memorable looks, including tributes to his Coachella, Grammys, and Met Gala appearances.

Midway through the evening, Styles transformed into his original audition attire and delivered the Stevie Wonder classic that first caught the judges’ attention in 2010. He also playfully reenacted his famous bakery line, engaging the audience with the nostalgic moment that helped launch his music career.

The original audition featured Styles performing an aria-less version of ‘Isn’t She Lovely’ for judges Simon Cowell, Nicole Scherzinger, and Louis Walsh. Though initial footage showed an a cappella beginning, later releases revealed he had started with Train’s ‘Hey, Soul Sister’ before being asked to perform without music. His impassioned tribute to Wonder secured his progression through X Factor’s competition, eventually leading to the formation of One Direction.

Earlier archival footage of the original audition is available below:

The ‘Harryween’ tradition began in 2021, with previous themed performances including a Wizard of Oz-inspired Dorothy look and Britney Spears cover in 2021, followed by a Grease-themed Danny Zuko outfit in 2022. Tonight’s show marks the penultimate date of his 30-night Madison Square Garden run, which began in August as part of the ‘Together, Together’ world tour.

More recent highlights include a four-year return to ‘Ever Since New York’ and a tribute to late One Direction member Liam Payne with the newly released track ‘What Is Enough’. The New York residency concludes tonight with a second ‘Harryween’ concert before Styles embarks on international dates in Australia.

The tour supports his fourth solo studio album, ‘Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally’, released in March 2024. Critics praised the ‘Together, Together’ tour in Amsterdam with a five-star review, calling it “a hopeful celebration of community and connection.”

Additional 2027 tour dates have been announced, featuring Kylie Minogue, LCD Soundsystem, and expanded Wembley Stadium performances.
