Harsha Bhogle Criticizes Speculation Surrounding Rohit Sharma’s ODI Future

Indian cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle has directly addressed ongoing speculation about Rohit Sharma’s potential retirement from the ODI format. Bhogle emphasized that media-driven rumors about Sharma’s exit are unfounded and harmful to team cohesion. He highlighted concerns that such narratives could create internal discord within the Indian cricket setup.

Bhogle shared his views on X (formerly Twitter), stating that improper handling of such issues risks a “cataclysm” in the team’s atmosphere. His critique focused on what he described as an irresponsible leak followed by a high-level clarification, which he deemed damaging to Indian cricket’s professionalism.

The controversy began after reports suggested India’s selectors might exclude Rohit Sharma from the 2027 ODI World Cup planning. These claims intensified after Sharma scored 11 and 26 in the first two ODIs against England.

Bhogle reiterated that the situation is “so damaging” to the team’s environment, citing the leaks and official responses as unproductive. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia addressed the speculation, asserting Rohit remains a key ODI player. He denied any discussions about Sharma’s retirement, confirming his participation in the third ODI at Lord’s.

“There has been no discussion about Rohit’s last match at Lord’s,” Saikia stated, clarifying that Sharma will continue playing as long as he is selected. Rohit, who has retired from T20Is and Tests, still plays ODIs regularly.
