The Israel Fire and Rescue Authority announced on Monday morning that fears of a hazardous ammonia leak have been ruled out following a massive fire involving two factories in Sderot. The blaze affected facilities owned by Strauss and Tapugan.
Emergency responders are currently on-site, and officials have confirmed that there have been no reported injuries. Initially, 13 firefighting crews were deployed to manage the blaze, with reinforcements arriving from multiple districts. The number of crews active at the scene has since increased to 25 as firefighters work to contain the fire and address localized leaks.
Israel Police have established perimeters around the area, blocking roads and managing traffic to ensure public safety. Meanwhile, the Sderot municipality has advised residents in neighboring areas to stay indoors and keep all windows tightly closed as a precaution.
“A fire broke out in a warehouse complex within the Shaar Negev industrial zone near Sderot, which houses the Strauss salty snack warehouse,” a spokesperson for Strauss reported.
“The warehouse has been successfully evacuated, and no injuries have been reported. There are no hazardous materials present in the facility. Furthermore, the salty snack production factory is located a safe distance from the fire; production remains ongoing, and no product shortages are anticipated.”
Strauss (also known as Strauss-Elite) is a leading food manufacturer in Israel, while Tapugan specializes in frozen potato products.
