HBO has announced a television series based on “Crazy Rich Asians,” with key cast members from the 2018 film returning to their roles.
The series will continue the story after the film, featuring Constance Wu as Rachel and Henry Golding as Nick, alongside Ronny Chieng as Eddie and Michelle Yeoh as Eleanor.
Adele Lim, who co-wrote the film, will serve as showrunner and executive producer, with Jon M Chu also acting as executive producer. Lim described the project as a “family reunion” and a sequel that will explore the characters and worlds from Kevin Kwan’s novels over eight episodes.
The announcement comes shortly after the merger of HBO’s parent company Warner Bros. with Paramount Skydance.
Adapted from Kwan’s bestselling novels, the original film achieved significant success, topping the US box office and receiving two Golden Globe nominations. It featured an all-Asian cast and centered on an Asian-American woman’s experience meeting her boyfriend’s ultra-wealthy family in Singapore.
