Heart of Midlothian have confirmed a goalkeeping transition, announcing the departure of Alexander Schwolow and the signing of Dutch stopper Beau Reus on a three-year deal.
Schwolow, 34, will rejoin Mainz on 1 August after a single season at Tynecastle. The former Freiburg and Hertha Berlin goalkeeper is moving for an undisclosed fee, having requested a return to his native Germany to be closer to home. During his time in Edinburgh, he made 33 appearances and recorded 15 clean sheets as the Jambos finished as Scottish Premiership runners-up. The club described him as a “much-valued member of the squad.”
His replacement, 24-year-old Reus, arrives as a free agent following four seasons with Belgian side Beveren. Standing 6ft 6in, the imposing shot-stopper played a key role in helping the club clinch the Challenger Pro League title last term.
The moves reshape the goalkeeping department significantly. With Craig Gordon having retired and Liam McFarlane departing on loan to Partick Thistle, Ryan Fulton and Zander Clark now stand as the other senior options available to new head coach Wouter Vrancken.
