The opening ODI between India and England at Edgbaston provided intense cricket action, but one of the most memorable highlights occurred away from the pitch. Former Indian captain MS Dhoni, who attended the match as a spectator, once again demonstrated why he remains a beloved figure across the global cricketing community.
Even nearly six years after retiring from international cricket, Dhoni continues to be a major draw for fans. As cameras focused on him during the match, the Edgbaston crowd erupted in applause. However, it was a touching interaction with a young fan in the stands that captured hearts and quickly went viral on social media.
A Wholesome Exchange That Captured Social Media’s Attention
The endearing moment occurred when a young child sitting near Dhoni offered the former skipper some popcorn. Known for his characteristic humility, Dhoni accepted the gesture with a smile and thanked the child before taking a few bites. When the youngster attempted to offer more popcorn moments later, Dhoni politely declined, signaling he had plenty.
This adorable interaction resonated deeply with fans online, with many praising the legendary wicketkeeper-batter for his grounded nature and kindness. The video has since become one of the most shared highlights from the first ODI.

India Secures Dominant 1-0 Series Lead with Clinical Victory
On the field, India delivered a comprehensive all-round performance to secure a comfortable six-wicket victory over England, taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. After being sent in to bat, England were dismissed for 258 in 48 overs, bolstered by Joe Root’s unbeaten 76 and Liam Dawson’s resilient 68. India mounted a brilliant comeback after reducing the hosts to 107 for 6, led by Axar Patel’s exceptional spell of 4 for 62. Prasidh Krishna contributed two wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah and the pace battery maintained relentless pressure on the English batting order.
In the pursuit, India reached the target with 28 balls to spare. Captain Shubman Gill set the tone with an elegant 80 before retiring hurt due to cramps. Axar Patel remained unbeaten on 57, and Washington Sundar provided the finishing touches with an unbeaten 52 to guide India to victory. Despite losing Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli early, India maintained control throughout the chase to seal a commanding win at Edgbaston.

Mandatory Credit: Melina Myers-Imagn Images With the upcoming season approaching in less than two months, the Florida State football program received a significant boost Tuesday night. Four-star recruit Za’Kari Johnson has officially committed to the Seminoles, choosing Florida State over other finalists including Miami, Auburn, Syracuse, and Georgia Tech. A standout at Miami (Fla.) Carol City High School, Johnson recently reclassified from the 2028 recruiting class to the 2027 class. According to 247Sports’ composite rankings, he is ranked as the No. 349 overall prospect, the No. 21 athlete, and the No. 31 player in the state of Florida for the 2027 cycle. While there has been discussion regarding his ideal position at the collegiate level, Johnson’s versatility was on display last season at Plantation (Fla.) High School, where he played both quarterback and defensive back before transferring. Johnson informed 247Sports that the coaching staff intends to utilize him primarily in the secondary. Johnson joins as Florida State’s 14th commitment in the 2027 class, marking the program’s fourth four-star addition for the cycle. The Seminoles’ 2027 recruiting class is currently ranked 53rd by 247Sports. This recruitment comes during a challenging period for the program. Following a perfect 13-0 season that ended in a College Football Playoff absence, Florida State has struggled to a 7-17 record over the last two years. As Mike Norvell enters his seventh season, the program continues to work toward regaining its previous momentum.
