Thousands assembled in the nation’s capital to commemorate the United States’ 250th birthday, enduring extreme heat, logistical delays, and a spectacular fireworks finale.
The festivities, featuring a military flyover, a concert, and remarks from President Donald Trump, were interrupted by an evening thunderstorm that prompted an evacuation of the National Mall.
The night concluded with what organizers described as the largest fireworks display ever staged in the United States.
July 4 marks the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, when the thirteen colonies declared independence from Britain.
