MobLand ranks among Paramount+’s most successful series, with season 2 completed and a season 3 already secured. Recently, conflicting reports circulated claiming that star Tom Hardy had been dismissed for alleged on‑set misconduct.
Initial reports suggested that Oscar‑winning actress Helen Mirren had taken issue with Hardy, but in an interview with Variety she clarified the situation. When asked whether she would collaborate with Hardy in the future, she responded:
“Absolutely. In a f***ing heartbeat. I love Tom, I think he’s the most amazing actor,” Mirren said. “Different actors have different processes. I’ve learnt over the years that some people get to things faster. As long as what’s on the screen is fantastic, I’m totally chilled with however someone gets there. Tom is a very special person. I think he’s absolutely remarkable. My support of him is genuine and heartfelt.”
Her unequivocal statement reinforces the likelihood that Hardy will remain with the series, as Paramount is unlikely to part with its leading actor, whether by writing him out or recasting — both undesirable options.
In MobLand, Mirren portrays Maeve Harrigan, the matriarch of the Harrigan crime family, married to Pierce Brosnan’s character Conrad. By the end of season 2, their relationship becomes increasingly turbulent, with family fixer Harry Da Souza — played by Hardy — stepping in to manage the fallout.
Hardy is slated to return for season 2, with season 3 also planned. Paramount aims for a seamless rollout, capitalizing on season 1’s record‑breaking premiere that attracted 2.2 million viewers — its largest global launch to date. The series ranks alongside flagship titles such as 1923 and Landman as Paramount+’s biggest releases, despite not being created by Taylor Sheridan; it was developed by Ronan Bennett, known for Top Boy.
MobLand has garnered respectable reviews, with a 77 % critic score and a 67 % audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, cultivating a dedicated fanbase. Featuring Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren, and Tom Hardy together is a major draw, complemented by the talented Paddy Considine.
Following Mirren’s remarks, confirmation of Hardy’s return may soon emerge, ahead of season 2’s anticipated release later this year.
