President Isaac Herzog commemorated the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks on New York’s Twin Towers with a video message of condolence released on Friday.
“Twenty‑five years have passed since the clear morning sky of September 11, 2001 over New York was torn apart by the horrifying sight of the twin towers collapsing,” he said while standing at Jerusalem’s 9/11 Living Memorial, in the video posted on X/Twitter.
“Standing before Israel’s memorial to the 9/11 victims on the hills of Jerusalem, we bow our heads in remembrance of the thousands who perished that tragic day in New York, at the Pentagon, and in the fields of Pennsylvania.”
He also lauded the bravery and heroism of first responders, emergency personnel, and New York citizens who aided in the aftermath of the attack.
In his memorial video, Herzog emphasized the ongoing struggle against global terrorism, noting that “here in Israel we know this deadly threat all too well.”
“There is simply no justification for targeting innocent civilians, whether they are American, Israeli, or of any other nationality. Israel will always stand beside America, our greatest ally and friend, and the world’s most powerful nation.”
“May the memory of the 9/11 victims endure as a lasting blessing,” he concluded.
Bennett, Lapid mark 9/11 anniversary
Former prime minister Naftali Bennett also observed the anniversary, saying he could never forget the image of the Twin Towers engulfed in flames.
“The terrorists sought not only to kill innocent people but also to shatter America’s spirit and attack the values it embodies,” he wrote on X. “They failed.”
He also highlighted the strong bond forged between Israel and the United States, saying it is “rooted in our shared values of freedom, democracy, courage, and the sanctity of life.”
“We stand shoulder‑to‑shoulder with the American people—as friends, allies, and partners in the fight against terror and the defense of liberty,” he wrote.
Opposition leader Yair Lapid noted that it has been 25 years since “the entire world changed forever.”
He also wrote that all of Israel stands with the United States, “in remembering those we lost and in honoring the courage of those who risked their lives to save others.”
“We stand united in our shared commitment to combat terrorism and to build a freer, safer, and more just world.”
US embassy, KKL‑JNF mark 25 years since September 11 attack
On Thursday, the U.S. Embassy in Israel, Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael‑Jewish National Fund (KKL‑JNF) and JNF‑USA gathered to mark the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attack.
The ceremony took place at Jerusalem’s 9/11 Living Memorial, the only site outside the United States that bears the names of all the attack’s victims and the only foreign location incorporating a fragment of the Twin Towers.
“Today’s memorial, where the United States and Israel mourn together and stand together, testifies to our enduring solidarity and shared resolve to confront terrorism and protect innocent life—a bond that time cannot erode and terror can never sever,” said U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee at the event.
