The Hong Kong Observatory announced that the No. 8 gale warning will stay in effect until at least noon. More than 350 flights and over 190 cross‑border high‑speed rail services have been cancelled on Sunday as Typhoon Noul impacts the city.
The weather forecaster reported that Noul is moving steadily inland into Guangdong and weakening progressively, but gales continue to affect many parts of Hong Kong, with occasional storm‑force winds offshore and over high ground.
The Observatory indicated that the gale or storm signal No. 8 will remain in force until at least noon. Depending on how quickly local winds ease, the Observatory will then consider issuing a strong wind signal No. 3.
At 7 am, Noul was centred roughly 80 km (49 mi) northeast of Hong Kong and is forecast to move northwest or north‑northwest at about 15 km/h (9 mph) as it crosses inland Guangdong.
The forecaster warned that rainbands linked to Noul would bring frequent heavy squally showers and thunderstorms across the region on Sunday.
