Approximately 600 students and staff members from a Hong Kong primary school that was forced to close following the fatal Wang Fuk Court fire will finally reunite at a newly refurbished campus in Tai Po, bringing an end to months of displacement across two temporary facilities.
Tai Po Baptist Public School, which was previously situated near Wang Fuk Court, officially opened its new premises at Fu Shin Estate on Saturday. Students, educators, and parents alike expressed relief at finally having a stable location to reunite.
The campus previously housed CCC Kei Ching Primary School. The Education Bureau invested HK$43.6 million (US$5.6 million) in comprehensive renovations, which included upgrading classrooms, restroom facilities, the assembly hall, and basketball court, as well as modernizing electrical and air-conditioning systems.
Secretary for Education Christine Choi Yuk-lin presided over the opening ceremony.
“The school has faced significant challenges, and through the collaborative efforts of various stakeholders, it has emerged renewed following the fire,” she stated.
“The relocation to its new premises at Fu Shin Estate represents far more than a simple change of address. This marks a meaningful milestone for our educators and students as they come together to begin a fresh chapter.”
