Hong Kong Shifts Toward Residential Dominance at Hung Hom Harbourfront Development
Hong Kong authorities have proposed increasing the residential component of the Hung Hom harbourfront project to over 60 percent by reducing commercial floor area, citing concerns about strong market uncertainty for office space.
The Development Bureau, which submitted the latest proposal to the Legislative Council’s development panel on Monday, also recommended shifting residential land from the originally planned seaside locations to inland sites near Hung Hom station and Polytechnic University. The initiative seeks to deliver both private and student housing in tandem with two mixed‑use structures.
Public consultation indicated strong support for converting the inland zone into a mix of residential units, hotels, and student hostels, owing to its convenient access to Hung Hom station and its close proximity to Polytechnic University, the document stated.
