Hong Kong is preparing to introduce a new visa designed to attract international talent for short-term training programmes, with a possible launch as early as the first quarter of 2027.
The latest policy address by Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu, the final one of his current term, also highlighted five academies that are either already operating or expected to open soon. These institutions will focus on training overseas professionals and hosting international events.
The proposed visa category was among several talent-attraction measures announced on Wednesday. It would allow non-local participants to join government-recognised training programmes lasting less than 12 months.
Officials believe the initiative will help strengthen Hong Kong’s position as a regional training hub.
