Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson is personally developing a new programming language for the blockchain, designed to be the first that combines user-defined transaction intents with cryptographic proofs of rule compliance.
“I’m actually personally developing a programming language for Cardano,” Hoskinson stated on X on Sunday, highlighting his work with Lucas Rosa, a software engineer at Input Output Global who co-created Aiken, one of Cardano’s primary smart contract languages.
This direct involvement is unusual for a founder leading a network of this magnitude and a company full of engineers, yet Hoskinson is choosing to build the foundational tool himself for future Cardano applications.
The language will support three core capabilities: transaction intents, proof-carrying data, and Groth16 proofs.
Transaction intents enable users to declare their goals—such as swapping tokens only if a price condition is met—without specifying the execution steps, which are then handled by the application.
Proof-carrying data attaches cryptographic evidence to information, verifying that it adheres to specific rules, allowing other apps to validate it without redundant computations.
