Hizam Al-Asad, a member of the political bureau of Yemen’s Houthi movement, expressed hope that Pakistan and Turkey would refrain from joining military operations against the group alongside Saudi Arabia.
“We hope the governments of Pakistan and Turkey will refrain from participating in the aggression by the Saudi enemy and the siege imposed on our country, which has continued for more than 11 years and has resulted in tens of thousands of casualties,” he told Russia’s RIA Novosti news agency.
Earlier this week, under the Makkah Defence Pact, Turkey and Pakistan agreed to advance the practical implementation of their collective defence commitments, including the rapid deployment of troops and military assets to Saudi Arabia.
The resumption of fighting in Yemen under the “Dawn of Yemen” military operation marks a dangerous turning point that threatens to undermine the fragile de-escalation and expose the region to open-ended escalation.
As the Makkah Defence Pact moves into practical implementation to bolster Saudi Arabia’s defences with support from Turkey and Pakistan, the Houthis have responded by intensifying missile and drone attacks targeting the kingdom’s interior and vital infrastructure.
