The Houthis claim their attack targeted a Saudi military base in Sharurah.
Saudi Civil Defence reported that two individuals were injured and a mosque along with multiple buildings sustained damage when a projectile fired by Yemeni Houthi rebels struck the southern Jazan region of Saudi Arabia.
The incident occurred in Jazan’s al-Tuwal governorate on Saturday, with several vehicles also suffering damage from the impact, according to officials.
A Civil Defence spokesperson described the targeting of civilian infrastructure as a “flagrant violation of international humanitarian law” and confirmed that established emergency protocols had been activated.
The Houthis asserted that their operation specifically targeted a Saudi military installation in Sharurah, located in the southern Najran province.
Saudi Civil Defence later announced that the threat had subsided in the Khamis Mushait governorate following an earlier advisory to residents.
The Iran-aligned Houthi movement has intensified missile and drone attacks across southern Saudi Arabia in recent days.
On Tuesday, the group conducted strikes against civilian and economic targets in major Saudi cities including Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan, and Najran, resulting in 73 casualties, among them women and children.
These developments mark a significant escalation in Yemen’s protracted conflict, which resumed in July after nearly four years of relative stability under a UN-mediated ceasefire.
Houthi forces have recently seized control of Yemen’s entire Red Sea coastline, capturing the strategically important port city of Mocha, while Yemeni government troops have initiated new military campaigns in al-Jawf, Marib, and al-Bayda.
According to the International Organization for Migration and local authorities, over 500 people have lost their lives and tens of thousands have been displaced due to the ongoing hostilities.
The UN Security Council convened an emergency meeting this month, during which Special Envoy Hans Grundberg cautioned that Yemen is entering “a new and more dangerous phase of war.”
