Hovland Surges into Contention with Opening-Round 64, Trails Lee by Two Strokes Entering Tour Championship Friday

The 2026 Tour Championship continues Friday with the second round at East Lake Golf Club.

Viktor Hovland, who captured the FedEx Cup title in 2023, has positioned himself for another potential championship run after firing a six-under 64 in the opening round. The eight-time PGA Tour winner qualified for the Tour Championship field by finishing 26th in the final 2026 FedEx Cup standings.

Hovland will begin Friday’s round in a tie for second place, just two shots off the lead held by Min Woo Lee.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler also remains in the mix after posting a 65 on Thursday.

Lee and Hovland will anchor the final pairing, scheduled to tee off at 2 p.m. ET for Friday’s second round.

Coverage of Friday’s second round will air on ESPN from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. ET, followed by Golf Channel from 1 to 6 p.m. ET. PGA Tour Live on ESPN+ will offer exclusive early streaming coverage beginning at 11 a.m. ET, including featured group and featured hole options.
