On Thursday, Howard will tee off at 10:42 BST, paired with New Zealand’s Kazuma Kobori and England’s Tom Sloman.
“It’s surreal. I’ve been occupied with inter‑pros for Munster and matches for my home club Fota Island, leaving little time to reflect, yet I’m delighted to be here,” Howard said, currently 1,441st in the world amateur rankings.
“I’ve only attended the Irish Open years ago as a spectator, and this is my first time competing. Having followed it on television over the years, I view it as a significant test and an exciting week.”
“I’m eager to participate. I intend to enjoy the week while giving my utmost effort, not merely to fill a spot, but to strive for excellence and see where it leads.”
Regardless of his performance this week, Howard says his Open debut will be valuable if it inspires others with cystic fibrosis to pursue their dreams.
“I’ve received messages from several families affected by cystic fibrosis,” he noted.
“That’s why I devote myself to CF Ireland advocacy, to demonstrate that it’s not the end of the world.”
“Keep pushing forward, keep fighting, and you can achieve your dreams too.”
