The final broadcast of legendary Mets broadcaster Howie Rose was not only an emotional milestone for the baseball community, but a deeply personal milestone for his family as well.
On Monday, Rose’s daughter Alyssa took to social media to express gratitude to everyone who helped make the historic day “the most special day of the Rose family’s life.” In her post, she revealed the poetic significance of Francisco Lindor being the final Mets player to bat in her father’s historic broadcast career.
“One thing about the Mets that is indisputable is that they are a true family organization. If you love the Mets, it is because of a deep, personal connection to someone special in your family. That reality came so full circle for me yesterday,” Alyssa wrote on X, recalling how she was born during baseball season. On the day of her birth, her father called into the radio station to announce his daughter’s arrival, and the station played “My Girl” on the air to celebrate.
She continued, “Of all the final at-bats my dad could have called, for it to be Lindor—whose walk-up song is, as we well know, ‘My Girl’—it was clear that wasn’t a coincidence. That was the universe’s way of reminding me that for my dad and me, it all starts and ends with me being his girl, and it all starts and ends with the New York Mets.”
She concluded her heartfelt post with a message for the future: “See you in 2027, Citi Field,” alluding to the planned ceremony to honor her father’s legendary legacy. The event was originally scheduled for Sunday but had to be postponed due to inclement weather, with the celebration now set for the 2027 season.
Rose announced prior to the start of the 2026 Major League Baseball season that he would be stepping away from the microphone in September, bringing to a close a legendary Mets tenure that began in 1996 when he started calling the team’s games on television.
Throughout his extensive broadcasting career, Rose also lent his voice to other major sports franchises, serving as a radio broadcaster for the Texas Rangers and the television voice of the New York Islanders.
