The Prisoners’ Media Office warned that conditions inside Israel’s Ofer prison have severely deteriorated, pointing to food shortages, insufficient medical care, and declining health among Palestinian detainees.
According to a Sunday statement, prisoners have lost considerable weight due to the Israeli policy of starvation and the low quality of food supplied in the facility.
The statement noted that inadequate medical care has exacerbated the spread of skin diseases among detainees.
The ongoing starvation policy at Ofer prison has caused significant weight loss among detainees because of severe food shortages and poor-quality provisions.
The office reported that scabies and fungal infections are spreading more widely among prisoners, attributing the outbreak to inadequate healthcare and substandard detention conditions.
It added that sick prisoners are being denied essential treatment, which worsens their condition and heightens health risks.
The statement further accused prison authorities of restricting the time prisoners spend out of their cells and limiting their exposure to sunlight.
The office said these measures have intensified detainees’ difficulties and fall short of internationally recognised standards for prisoner treatment.
The Prisoners’ Media Office urged international human‑rights and humanitarian organisations to intervene, advocating for improved conditions, medical care, and provision of basic necessities for detainees.
The statement held the prison administration responsible for the welfare and safety of those detained at Ofer.
