Undefeated contender Osleys Iglesias has set his sights on a unification showdown with the winner of the upcoming clash between Christian Mbilli and Canelo Alvarez, aiming to consolidate the super-middleweight division.
Mbilli is scheduled to make the first defense of his WBC title in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on October 31, having been elevated from interim to full champion status following Terence Crawford’s retirement. The Frenchman previously fought to a 10-round draw with Lester Martinez in September 2025, while Crawford dethroned Canelo via unanimous decision.
Consequently, Alvarez is now attempting to reclaim a quarter of his undisputed crown at 168 pounds, with both the Mexican star and Mbilli having been inactive for over a year.
By contrast, Iglesias has competed twice in 2026, capturing the IBF title with an eighth-round stoppage of Pavel Silyagin in April. Based in Canada, the 28-year-old Cuban native trains under renowned coach Marc Ramsay, who notably guides former undisputed light-heavyweight king Artur Beterbiev.
Known as “El Tornado,” Iglesias employs a fluid style backed by significant power, boasting a record of 16-0 with 15 knockouts. Following his latest victory—a seventh-round stoppage of Oliver Zaren on Thursday—he told the crowd in Quebec that he intends to pursue the WBC title next.
“I hope the winner [of Canelo-Mbilli] faces me. I’d like my next fight to be a unification.”
Entering the bout as an unbeaten contender, Zaren was withdrawn by his trainer, former multi-time world champion Mikkel Kessler, after absorbing a sustained beating.
