Far-right British political commentator Milo Yiannopoulos has been detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Louisiana, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed.
In a Friday statement, a DHS spokesperson stated that Yiannopoulos was arrested Thursday at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY). The spokesperson noted that while Yiannopoulos legally entered the United States in May 2019, he “chose to overstay his welcome in violation of our nation’s laws.”
According to the spokesperson, an immigration judge issued a final order of removal for Yiannopoulos on July 22 after he failed to appear for a scheduled hearing.
“He will remain in ICE custody pending removal,” the spokesperson added, emphasizing that the administration is “working diligently to ensure that aliens in our country illegally can no longer fly unless it is out of our country to self-deport.”
As of Friday afternoon, ICE’s online detainee database listed Yiannopoulos as being in “ICE Custody.” The entry confirms his birthplace as the United Kingdom but does not specify his current detention location.
The confirmation follows reports from multiple outlets on Friday regarding Yiannopoulos’s detention in Louisiana. Fox News reported that he is being held in Alexandria, Louisiana.
Yiannopoulos, a former Breitbart News editor, previously interned for then-U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene in 2022 and worked on Ye’s (formerly Kanye West) 2024 presidential campaign. The reason for his presence in Louisiana remains unclear, though Ye is scheduled to perform in New Orleans on Friday night.
Last year, Yiannopoulos expressed support for strict immigration enforcement in the U.S. on social media.
In a June 2025 post, he wrote: “California needs ICE checkpoints at supermarket entrances, gas stations, strip malls, intersections and government buildings, with on the spot deportation for anyone who can’t prove they are in the US legally.”
On Friday, far-right activist and Trump ally Laura Loomer claimed credit for Yiannopoulos’s detention on social media, stating she had previously reported him to ICE.
