IDF forces evacuated residents from a Hebron neighborhood on Friday as part of preparations to demolish the residences of the terrorists responsible for last week’s deadly attack at Yehuda Junction.
The assault claimed the lives of Staff Sergeant Ron Yonatan Roytman, 23, from Ashkelon, and Sergeant Yuval Shai Svilem, 20, from Hod Hasharon.
According to military officials, Roytman served as a squad commander while Svilem was a combat soldier in the Ari Battalion (775) within the Search and Rescue Brigade.
IDF intelligence indicates the attackers initially planned a broader operation targeting the heavily trafficked Route 35, but redirected their assault toward soldiers at the military checkpoint when they determined they could not breach the highway.
The council announced the establishment of new security outposts, citing fundraising efforts to support enhanced protection measures. Officials stated these positions were created “out of the deep grief and pain over the terrible attack at Yehuda Junction in which soldiers Ron Yonatan and Yuval Shai were murdered.”
Ariella Roitman and Danielle Greyman-Kennard contributed to this report.
