Idlewild have announced two new shows to commemorate their 30th anniversary this winter.
Earlier this year, the Scottish band embarked on a tour in support of their self-titled 10th studio album, while also joining My Chemical Romance for a major support slot in Glasgow, performing alongside Embrace at Halifax’s Piece Hall, and appearing at this summer’s Bearded Theory festival.
In a recent Instagram post, the alt-rock veterans reflected on their journey, highlighting their debut performance on January 1996 at the Subway Club in Edinburgh. “Thirty years later, to celebrate this milestone, we are pleased to announce two very special shows at Edinburgh’s Usher Hall on Friday, December 18th, and London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire on Saturday, December 19th.”
Tickets will be available for general sale this Friday (July 31) at 10 a.m., with pre-sale access opening at the same time on Wednesday (July 29) for those who sign up in advance.
In a recent interview with NME, the band emphasized their focus on progress rather than nostalgia during live performances, citing their 2023 tour marking the 20th anniversary of *The Remote Part* as a catalyst for reevaluating their legacy. Frontman Roddy Woomble stated, “When the band began 30 years ago, we never performed covers—we were always focused on our own material. At the start, we were quite raw and imperfect, but each era demands fresh creative energy.”
Woomble added, “While we respect all our past work, anniversary shows serve as a reminder of the band’s enduring value. They force us to embrace our achievements and witness the joy they bring to fans—a humbling reminder of our impact.”
