During the post‑AEW WrestleDream 2026 media scrum, Ilja Dragunov discussed his upcoming AEW debut, the factors that led him to sign with the promotion, and his ambitions moving forward.
Why Ilja Dragunov Joined AEW
“It’s been almost 14 years since I started, and I’ve experienced many phases in my indie and pro‑wrestling career,” Dragunov said. “I’ve traveled, signed contracts, and always felt I could bet on myself. When the chance feels limited, I start to feel stuck—not because of outside forces, but because I need to fight, compete, and grow. AEW gives me that fresh environment to breathe new air, see a new landscape, and satisfy my hunger for competition.”
His Reaction to the Debut
“Debuting with AEW is incredibly overwhelming for me,” he added. “It’s a completely new setting, but the way I’ve been welcomed feels exactly right.”
Future Opponents and Ambitions
When asked about potential foes, Dragunov responded, “Who not? From Jon Moxley to Samoa Joe to Kyle Fletcher, all the top contenders here—it’s hard to name anyone I wouldn’t face. I’m starving for competition, and whoever steps into the ring with me will know I’m here to challenge them.”
He also praised AEW’s reputation as a top destination for elite wrestling: “AEW is a landscape of limitless opportunities. If it’s the place where the best wrestle, I certainly want to be part of it.”
Dragunov is scheduled to appear on this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite. No opponent has been announced yet.
