India Women seized a stranglehold on the standalone Test against England Women at Lord’s on Day 2, building a commanding 269-run lead with nine second-innings wickets intact. After bowling the hosts out for 170 to secure a 115-run first-innings advantage, the visitors finished the day at 154 for one, with vice-captain Smriti Mandhana unbeaten on 69 and Yastika Bhatia 39 not out.
Goud’s five-wicket haul dismantles England
Resuming at 21 for one, England faced a relentless examination from seamer Kranti Goud, who exploited overcast conditions to claim magnificent figures of 5 for 37 from 17 overs. Goud struck early, trapping Tammy Beaumont leg-before for seven, then removed Maia Bouchier (23) and clean-bowled Alice Capsey (9).
Amy Jones (52 off 62) and captain Nat Sciver-Brunt (44) offered resistance, but Goud returned to break their partnership, winning a crucial review to dismiss Sciver-Brunt before polishing off the tail by having Lauren Bell caught at slip by Shafali Verma. Sayali Satghare chipped in with two wickets as England folded in 59.1 overs.
Mandhana and Bhatia extend India’s grip
With a substantial cushion, Mandhana and Shafali Verma laid a rock-solid foundation of 88 runs. Verma contributed 33 off 55 balls before falling to Sophie Ecclestone, but her departure only invited further dominance. Mandhana and Bhatia then constructed an unbroken 66-run stand, scoring at 3.66 runs per over.
Mandhana, in sublime touch, struck nine boundaries in her 124-ball vigil, while Bhatia anchored with four fours from 73 deliveries. With two full days remaining, India hold all the aces at the Home of Cricket.
