Indonesia announced on Saturday that it would reduce natural gas exports to Singapore to prioritize domestic energy demands, according to government officials. The decision comes as both nations grapple with worsening air quality linked to widespread wildfires across the Indonesian archipelago.
Djoko Siswanto, head of SKK Migas—the state agency responsible for supervising the oil and gas sector—stated that Indonesia would decrease gas deliveries by approximately 31 million standard cubic feet per day to Singapore.
The reduction consists of 15 million standard cubic feet per day from fields in Natuna, part of Riau Islands Province, and an additional 16 million standard cubic feet per day from facilities in Sumatra, Siswanto confirmed in an official statement.
He emphasized that the measure aims to ensure stable and reliable domestic gas supply for power generation, supporting Indonesia’s urgent energy requirements during this critical period.
