A four-month-old Palestinian child has died following an Israeli military checkpoint blocking an ambulance from reaching urgent medical care west of Ramallah, while a 16-year-old boy was shot dead by Israeli forces elsewhere in the occupied West Bank.
According to Laila Ghannam, the Palestinian governor of Ramallah and el-Bireh, doctors at the Arab Specialised Hospital confirmed the child, Ahmad Marouf Zeid, died on Sunday evening after Israeli forces prevented his transport to the hospital for over an hour despite his critical condition.
Ghannam stated that Israeli soldiers deployed tear gas to halt Palestinian vehicles attempting to pass through the checkpoint near the village of Deir Ammar.
She described the incident as a profound violation of human rights and part of a broader Israeli policy restricting Palestinian access to essential services and healthcare.
In a separate incident, Israeli forces fatally shot the 16-year-old boy at the Qalandiya refugee camp near Ramallah, the Palestinian Ministry of Health reported. Two additional boys, aged 14, sustained gunshot wounds during the same event on Sunday.
Violence in the West Bank has escalated since October 2023, with Israeli forces and settlers responsible for at least 1,087 Palestinian fatalities, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.
Simultaneously, in Gaza, an Israeli drone strike targeted civilians on Omar al-Mukhtar Street in central Gaza City on Sunday, killing at least two people and wounding several others, health officials confirmed.
Gaza’s Health Ministry reported that Israeli military operations have resulted in 1,066 deaths and 3,445 injuries since the implementation of a humanitarian ceasefire in October.
The cumulative toll from Israel’s military operations in Gaza since October 2023 now exceeds 73,090 fatalities and 173,550 injuries, the ministry added.
