Wendi Adelson and Dan Markel once presented the facade of an ideal family, a portrait that shattered under the weight of a bitter divorce and a protracted custody battle. On July 18, 2014, the 41-year-old law professor was shot dead in the garage of his Tallahassee home in broad daylight. Over the years, a meticulous investigation peeled back the layers of a sinister murder-for-hire plot. The conspiracy, which involved hitmen, in-laws, and the family dental practice, culminated in the arrest and conviction of Charlie and Donna Adelson, the brother and mother of Dan’s former wife, Wendi. Law enforcement concluded that the mother-son duo orchestrated the murder to allow Wendi to relocate herself and the children to South Florida to be closer to family. Lily Fletcher, a producer behind the docuseries “Welcome to the Family: The Murder of Dan Markel,” joins “Forbes True Crime” to discuss the new series examining the intricacies of the case.
